The Duensberg mailinglist on dark.lahn.de is intended to be a list to transport coordinating information for upcoming excavation campaigns to all those who are interested in helping to recover the history of the Duensberg.
It should be used mainly for announcing dates for the upcoming campaigns, interesting news about the ongoing work, exhibitions, books and publications related to the Duensberg.
Also it should be used as a communications forum for the participants of the last excavations, in order to keep contact.As in the last three years, in the upcoming campaigns a lot of volunteers are needed to do the actual field work and supporting tasks, so feel free to apply for helping in the future...
You have not to have a diploma in archaeology but you have to have the will and ability to help at the various tasks around an excavation campaign.Because this is an open list, discussion of scientific results, exact coordinates of finding locations etc should not be done in that list - because there is no guarantee that they may be misused by people doing treasure hunting and tomb raiding for profit which may also have an eye on that list.
Policy of the list
As you read a few lines above, the list is for informational and organisational purposes around the excavations at the Duensberg.It is NOT a forum for treasure hunters and tomb raiders!
The list and the machine on which it is running is located in Germany and so the german law is applicapable to all things related to the list - no other law elsewhere in the world, where the messages would be transported to by the means of internet, usenet or whatever informational infrastructure you may use.
There is no guarantee or right given for the reliability and/or operation of the list. Membership of any person in the list can be quitted at any time for any reason by the list administrators.
Census hopefully have not to be applied to the list but the list administrators have the right, to filter any article for any reason. The poster of the article should be informed about that but has not to.
If the external spam running into the list is too much, the access of posting into the list may be reduced in the future to the e-mail adresses of the subscribers.
Pictures, sounds, binaries: Always a theme on mailinglists. Think of the fact, that the article yout post is multiplied by the number of list members, which can be some hundreds. Internet seems to be without any limitations for the traffic but it is a good idea, to place the pictures and sounds to a place in the net and only post the URL (and probably an access password) to the list. Sending of pictures and sounds is strongly discouraged! To prevent accidentially sending of pics and sounds, the length of an article is limited to 64000 bytes.
HTML-Mails: *SIGH* Think, that not all people may using that graphical interface and the mailing programs from Redmond and so backgrounds and nice fonts should be avoided for sake of readability for all list members... DO NOT USE HTML-MAILS PLEASE! Help for switching the mostly preset feature HTML off could be obtained from the administrators.
Glossary: Duensberg Excvavation
For those, reading this by accident or intention and are not familiar with what the Duensberg is:The Duensberg is a hill with a celtic ring fort, located on the northern periphery of the settlement area of celtic culture. It has it's main time in the first century B.C. and by now it seems to be likely, that it was destroyed by roman troups around 10 B.C. or 9 B.C.
Geographically, it's in Germany, about 80 km north of Frankfurt am Main near Giessen. In 1999 there was the first excavation campaign started and a section of the
lowest of three walls (or ramparts) and a part of a so called "battle field" in front of it was excavated. Most of the field work was done by volunteers, helping in their free time or in their holidays. Responsible for the excavation and the relating scientific work is the Roman Germanian Commission (RGK) which is a suborganisation of the German Archaeolgic Institute (DAI). The excavation was planned, organized and led by Dr. Karl F. Rittershofer from the RGK.By now (Aug. 2001) the field work of the first campaign is finished and it is planned to setup a new campaign, starting in 2002.

Hallo zusammen!Die Dünsberg Mailingliste auf dark.lahn.de is gedacht, als eine Liste zur Koordination der Ausgrabungen am Dünsberg.
Hauptsächlich sollte diese Liste zum Verteilen von Ankündigungen künftiger Ausgrabungen dienen sowie dem Informationsaustausch über laufende Arbeiten, Ausstellungen, Bücher und Publikationen zum Thema Dünsberg. Die Liste sollte auch ein Kommunikationsforum der Teilnehmer der Vergangenen Ausgrabungen sein, um Kontakte persönlicher und/oder fachlicher Natur zu pflegen.
Wie in den vergangenen drei Jahren werden auch bei zukünftigen Ausgrabungen ab 2002 wieder jede Menge Freiwillige gebraucht werden um die Arbeit auf der Grabungsstelle und auch alle anderen nötigen Arbeiten zu erledigen.
Man muß keinen akademischen Grad in Archäologie besitzen um mitzuhelfen aber den Willen und die Fähigkeiten, etwas an Arbeit zu übernehmen.
Da dies eine offene Liste ist, sind Diskussionen über wissenschaftliche Ergebnisse, genaue Fundpunktbeschreibungen und ähnliches hier fehl am Platze - es gibt keine Garatie, daß nicht auch Personen mitlesen, die aus Profitgier sich als Schatzjäger und Grabräuber betätigen.
Policy der Liste
Wie schon in den vorhergehenden Zeilen zu lesen, ist dies eine Liste zum Austausch von Informationen und organisatorischen Dingen rund um die Ausgrabungen am Dünsberg.Dies ist KEIN Forum für Schatzjäger und Grabräuber!
Die Liste und der Rechner auf dem sie läuft steht in Deutschland und damit gilt deutsches Recht für alle Dinge, die die Liste betreffen. Rechte anderer Länder, durch die Nachrichten der Liste via Internet, Usenet oder andere informationelle Infrastrukturen geleitet werden, sind nicht anwendbar.
Es gibt keine Garantie für die Verfügbarkeit und Funktionalität der Liste. Listenmitglieder können jederzeit ohne Angabe von Gründen von den Listenadministratoren aus der Liste entfernt werden.
Zensur muß hoffentlich nicht stattfinden, die Listenadministratoren haben jedoch das Recht, beliebige Artikel durch Filter zu blockieren. Der Sender des Artikels sollte darüber informiert werden, eine Informationspflicht existiert jedoch nicht.
Sollten externe Werbemails überhand nehmen, so behalten sich die Listenadministratoren vor, den Kreis der Personen, die in die Liste posten können, auf die in der Liste eingetragenen Personen einzuschränken.
Bilder, Töne, Programme: Ewiges Thema in Mailinglisten. Denkt bitte daran, daß in einer Mailingliste die gesandten Mails mit der Anzahl der Empfänger multipliziert werden, was durchaus auch ein paar hundert sein können. Auch wenn das Internet mittlerweile ohne Grenzen für den Datenverkehr erscheint, ist es eine gute Idee, Bilder und Töne im Netz abzulegen und dann über die Liste nur noch die URL (und ein eventuelles Zugangspasswort) zu senden. Damit nicht versehentlich Bilder und Töne in die Liste gepostet werden, ist die Länge der mails auf 64000 Zeichen begrenzt.
HTML-Mails: :-/ Denkt daran, daß nicht alle Mitglieder der Liste die bunte Oberfläche und die Mailer aus Redmond benutzen und hübsche Fonts und Hintergrundbilder der mails garnicht sehen können und aus Gründen der Lesbarkeit für alle vermieden werden sollten. BITTE KEINE HTML-MAIL BENUTZEN! Hilfe zum Abstellen der HTML-Funktion kann von den Listenadministratoren erfragt werden.
Erklärung: Ausgrabungen am Dünsberg
Für alle die, die aus Zufall oder Absicht diese Zeilen lesen und nicht so genau wissen, was es mit dem Dünsberg eigentlich auf sich hat: Der Dünsberg ist ein Berg mit einer durch Ringwälle befestigten keltischen Siedlung. Er liegt an der nördlichen Peripherie des keltischen Siedlungsraumes. Seine Haupt-Zeit hatte er im ersten vorchristlichen Jahrhundert und es besteht Grund zu der Annahme, daß er um das Jahr 10 v.Chr. oder 9 v.Chr durch römische Truppen zerstört wurde.Geografisch liegt er rund 80 km nördlich von Frankfurt a.M. in der Nähe von Gießen
Die erste Grabungskampagne wurde in den Jahren 1999 bis 2001 durchgeführt. Es wurde ein Schnitt durch den unteren Wall vorgenommen sowie verschiedene Schnitte durch das vorgelagerte "Schlachtfeld".
Der größte Teil der Feldarbeit wurde durch Freiwillige durchgeführt, die daführ ihre Freizeit oder ihren Urlaub opferten.
Verantwortlich für die Grabung und die begleitenden Wissenschaftlichen Aufbereitungen ist die Römisch-Germanische Kommission (RGK) als Unterorganisation des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts (DAI). Die Grabungen wurden geplant, durchgeführt und geleitet von Dr. Karl F. Rittershofer von der RGK
Jetzt (Aug. 2001) ist die Feldarbeit der ersten Kampagne abgeschlossenn und es ist geplant, eine neue Kampagne in 2002 zu starten.
